It had to happen some year. For all the years we have been here, we have never had deer in the garden. We see them around, but never right here. No longer so. The field swallows arrived two days ago (29 April), but I neglected to make a note at the time. The barn swallows, some of which will nest in the woodshed, should follow in about a week. The dry spell broke with a vengence. On Monday night (21st) a severe storm line barged through the area and watered everything. Here there were only some high wind gusts which brought in leaf litter and small branch debris. To the west and north there were straight line wind shears and a small tornado which damaged homes, vehicles and property. No reports of injury, but lots of power outages.

Oh dear, time flies. The solstice picnic has come and gone. The kids got so caught up in preparing for it that no time was spent recording it. David never even got out the camera. What a shame. This is such a beautfiful day. Both the kids were up early today. A nice breeeze and sunny the whole day so most bugs were not around. The rain is rather spotty, so gardening can be done. The bank path got a nice weeding the other day. The green bank also weeded. Some mowing (hard on the mower when wet). That fox mentioned on 29 May came trotting down the road the other day right behind Sally Jane who was filling a planter at the time. Another rainy day follows another rainy day and so this was a very wet May. Meanwhile, since unable to garden, David did the next best thing and actually implemented the php month. So now each month will come the mySQL DB and be written on the fly in php, the same as the individual pictures starting last month. Slowly the kid is catching on to this stuff. So now come the dark, damp days. Which means weeds and grass grow greatly and luckily, so does the good stuff. Yesterday we had rain, today is windy but quite sunny. David is breaking in his hands, shoulders and back with extensive raking. Up to about 3 hours per day in 3 one hour sessions. Most roadside (there a few hundred feet of same) is now cleaned, and working garden borders now. Most of the snow is gone, just the big pile in the back and stuff on the north side. Another wonderful day. Sunny and hot, but not humid and some breeze. Delightful !!!So what did they do? Well David spent more morning time doing web stuff. A nice day with some showers here and there. David had to work so Sally was alone in the garden today. She weeded and defined some new edges on the western side of the upper garden. Where did this week go ???? When Sally said it was Thursday, David got very confused, it feeling more like a Tuesday. Anyhow, hot and muggy.
