Diary of a Boy Gardener

We are in the Berkshires, the beautiful rolling hills of western Massachusetts where the season is short and the frosts sometimes win. Visit Sally and David's Gardens and see how two old farts spend their time helping what plants they can find their place in this world.

Pittsfield Garden Tour

The last of this season's garden tours was this weekend past. Saturday was our day to tour and the sites were all quite good. In fact, we believe this was the best tour this year, which is a first. Unfortunately David forgot to charge his camera battery and so the camera shut down in the middle of the second garden. But on the other hand, he has yet to post the pictures from last week !!!!
The problem being that weeding here in Happy Hinsdale is very time consuming and when he sits at the computer, he is programming some new tools. So patience is always a virtue around here. Even the great moving of the 10 cords of wood is behind schedule. Egads !!!

Perfect Day for a Garden Tour

Today is one beautiful day. We are under a Canadian high with low humidity, cool nights and highs expected to be low 80s. And so we look forward to embarking on the season's first garden tour, Hidden Treasures of the Berkshires, courtesy the Lenox Garden Club.
This year it concentrates on Lenox proper and Stockbridge, after a south county break last year up in Williamstown.
David will post some photos in a few days.
But tomorrow is Franklin County's Tour, so it gets hectic here.

We have added a forum

Since stats for this site indicate close to 1000 views a month, it would appear there are enough eyeballs dropping by from time to time that they might want to use their fingers, connected to their brains, to perhaps comment or discuss things here. So a forum has been added. For the moment it just contains one topic, General Gardening, but if traffic warrants, more sub boards and topics will be added. If you feel so inclined, pop on over. Currently open to anyone without any signing in or joining, it will stay that way until either the spammers find it or someone gets too silly....
Thanks
The management

Deer Around

It had to happen some year. For all the years we have been here, we have never had deer in the garden. We see them around, but never right here. No longer so. A few days ago Sally noticed the leaves missing on several sunflowers. Then she saw the tracks. And the next day lilies were eaten and a few peas. So up has gone the fencing (no pretty and makes things harder to do).
Hope to get some July pictures up soon and will include the fencing deal.
